Wooden Culture in the Carpathian Mountains: Maramureş

In the Northwest of Romania, aside the cities, there are some of the most unaltered regions. So, for instance, the endless forests but also the villages with high wooden churches, which remind of Scandinavia. Characteristic for Maramures are the beautiful sculpted wooden gates, the colourful traditional costumes, still worn, and the peaceful, hectic-free life of the people, a piece of lost Paradise, especially for those taking a great interest into ethnography.
